Yogyakarta, October 15, 2026 — The Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (FUPI) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held an "Alumni Career Review" session on Thursday (October 15, 2026) at 09:30 WIB in the FUPI Dean’s Meeting Room. The event was opened by the Dean of FUPI, Prof. Dr. H. Robby Habiba Abror, S.Ag., M.Hum., and organized by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Ahmad Salehudin, S.Th.I., M.A.
This session served as an evaluation forum to assess the alignment between graduate profiles and the professional fields in which alumni are currently engaged, while also mapping the career progression of graduates from study programs within FUPI. Through this initiative, the faculty and its study programs aim to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the relevance of higher education to the demands of the job market and the career development of their graduates.
Muhammad Rashif Hilmi, M.Sc., from the Center for Employability and Career Development (CENDI) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, served as the guest speaker. During the session, he presented the results of a career mapping study for alumni of the Master’s Program in Quranic Studies and Exegesis (Magister Ilmu Al-Qur’an dan Tafsir/S2 IAT), providing insights into their professional profiles, sectors of employment, and further educational pursuits.
According to the career mapping data for S2 IAT alumni, 225 individuals were identified as being employed, self-employed (entrepreneurs), and/or pursuing further studies. Of this total, 94 alumni (41.78%) are employed in roles aligned with their graduate profile, while 91 alumni (40.44%) are working in fields outside of their specific graduate profile. Additionally, 44 alumni (19.56%) are engaged in entrepreneurship, and 18 alumni (8%) have continued their education at a higher level. The total percentage may exceed 100% because an alumnus can be recorded in more than one activity category.
Within the category of employment aligned with the graduate profile, 93 alumni (41.33%) are pursuing careers in academia, while one alumnus (0.44%) works as an intermediate-level mufasir(Quranic exegete). Meanwhile, in the category of employment outside the graduate profile, the fields of operations, industry, and services account for the largest share, with 41 alumni (18.22%), followed by the education sector with 35 alumni (15.56%).
In the entrepreneurship category, alumni are engaged in various sectors. Nine alumni (4%) are involved in general trade and retail, seven (3.11%) in education, training, and research, and five (2.22%) in the food and beverage industry. Additionally, 23 alumni (10.22%) fall into other business categories or have not been specifically identified.
Regarding further education, 18 alumni (8%) are pursuing doctoral (PhD) studies. This data indicates that some graduates of the Master’s program in Ilmu Al-Qur’an dan Tafsir(IAT—Quranic Studies and Exegesis) are not only entering the workforce but are also continuing to develop their academic capacity through advanced studies.
The Head of the IAT Master’s Program, Dr. Ali Imron, M.S.I., stated that, overall, there is a strong alignment between the graduate profile and the career paths of the alumni. Nevertheless, the results of this mapping should serve as a basis for evaluation, guiding potential adjustments to the graduate profile and the future development of the study program.
According to him, mapping alumni careers should not end with data collection; it must be followed by curriculum evaluation, the strengthening of graduate competencies, and the alignment of academic programs with the evolving needs of society and the professional world. In this way, the graduate profile defined by the study program can remain highly relevant to the actual career realities of its alumni. This "Alumni Career Analysis" (Bedah Karir Alumni) initiative serves as a pivotal moment for the Master’s Program in Qur’anic Studies and Exegesis (S2 IAT) to strengthen the link between academic development and the professional needs of its graduates. The data gathered is expected to provide a foundation for refining graduate profiles, enhancing student competencies, and designing study programs that are more responsive to the evolving dynamics of the professional world.
Through this initiative, the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (FUPI) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta reaffirms its commitment to continuously improving the relevance of its education, bolstering the competitiveness of its graduates, and establishing a more focused alumni tracking system—all as part of an ongoing effort to enhance the quality of higher education.
