IAT Master’s Program Lecturers Play an Active Role in Psychosocial Counseling Technique Training for Academic Advisors at FUPI
Yogyakarta, August 23, 2026 — Faculty members from the Master’s Program in Quranic Studies (S2 IAT) at the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (FUPI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, participated in and played an active role in a training program on psychosocial counseling techniques for Academic Advisors (DPA), held by the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought from August 20–23, 2026.
This training is part of an initiative to strengthen the capacity of faculty members in their roles as Academic Advisors. Beyond providing guidance on academic matters, Academic Advisors play a crucial role in understanding the various challenges students face—ranging from social and emotional issues to interpersonal relationships and other difficulties encountered during their higher education journey.
During the program, the S2 IAT faculty members not only engaged with the provided materials and briefings but also participated actively in discussions, practical exercises, and skill-building sessions focused on psychosocial counseling techniques. This involvement allowed the faculty to deepen their understanding of appropriate approaches for addressing the diverse situations students may face.
Psychosocial counseling training is highly relevant to the academic responsibilities within the S2 IAT program. Master’s students navigate complex academic dynamics—from coursework and research/thesis development to time management and personal issues—all of which can impact the continuity of their studies. Consequently, a faculty member’s ability to provide effective initial guidance is a vital factor in supporting student success.
Through this initiative, it is expected that S2 IAT faculty members will be better equipped to provide academic guidance that is more humanistic, responsive, and centered on the students' needs. Furthermore, these psychosocial counseling skills can strengthen communication between faculty and students, ensuring that any issues arising during the educational process are identified and addressed appropriately—including through referrals to professional specialists when necessary. The participation of IAT (Qur’anic Studies and Interpretation) Master’s program lecturers in this training reflects the program’s commitment to continuously enhancing the quality of academic services and student support. Strengthening faculty competence is focused not only on teaching and research but also on the ability to provide educational services that foster the holistic academic development of students.
Through this initiative, the IAT Master’s program at the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (FUPI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, aims to further cultivate an academic environment that is supportive, inclusive, and responsive to student needs, thereby ensuring that the educational process at the master’s level can proceed optimally.
